I saw the announcement on the Transmission website of the release of transmission 1.80 and I got really excited about some of the features such as tracker-less torrents and magnet links. I was running 1.51 which is what’s in the Ubuntu Jaunty repos. Unfortunately I can’t upgrade my SheevaPlug to any Ubuntu distro beyond 9.04 because there is some funny business on how they’re compiling the arm packages for future releases. Eventually I’ll switch over to Debian but I really don’t feel like mucking around with the serial console on my plug.

I use sitelutions.com for my websites and subdomains; I love using sitelutions because it’s the best free solution I found for my servers with dynamic IPs. The only problem is that there’s not very many dyndns update clients available. So, I tried my hand at scripting and this is what I’ve come up with.
#!/bin/sh
#### SITELUTIONS DYNDNS UPDATE SCRIPT ####
USERNAME="email"
PASSWORD="password"
#Separate record ids by a comma
RECORDIDS="1234567"
TTL="60"
LOGFILE="/var/log/sitelutions.log"
### Ways to retrieve IP address ##
##(Default) use sitelutions
IP="&detectip=1"

I really like Transmission-CLI for torrents, however it is lacking many features I used with uTorrent. One of them is downloading torrents automatically from an RSS feed. My reason for this is that I love Top Gear. But I don’t have BBC America (or a TV) so my only alternative is downloading it. But I don’t want to have to manually find the latest episode and then wait for it to download. This is a short how-to to get a simple RSS system set up using transmission-cli.
Prerequisites:
- transmission-cli set up and running on your computer (on debian systems it’s as simple as “apt-get install transmission-cli”)

I’m posting this mainly because I had a really hard time finding the solution. Hopefully someone in the same boat can find this solution helpful.
I usually use uTorrent to create torrents, however since I switched to my sheevaplug and installed transmission I’ve had to learn how to manage my torrents with a very limited cli. I did learn how to create a torrent:

A lot has happened since I last posted about my carputer so I’ll try to be complete and short.
After installing the computer underneath the passenger seat, I didn’t do much with it. I had the mindset that everything would have to be complete before I could start using my carputer but I soon realized that’s not necessarily true.
While I was in this carputer limbo, I did cut down my subwoofer box and attach the amp to the back of it and install it in my trunk.
