Matthew Perryman Jones: Artist of the Year

Indie, Music

matthew-perryman-jones Earlier this year I was discovering a lot of great new music in my In-die Box posts. Although I discovered some great artists and songs, by far the best is Matthew Perryman Jones. His melodies are sweet and his lyrics are soulful. He’s an incredibly talented musician and I see him becoming big in the next couple of years. Sadly we missed him coming to town with Ingrid Michaelson earlier this year – it would have been an incredible concert! You’ll see below that he’s as good live as he is on his albums. Here are the two albums I’ve purchased and my favorite tracks.

Ode to Muse

Music

muse3

I just wanted to post on how much I love the artist Muse. Their sound can be described as epic, and is often compared to Radiohead (though I find Muse’s lyrics less cryptic and melodies more, should I say? empowering). Plus, Matt Bellamy shares appearance and birthday with a best bud of mine, Jarron. What’s not to love? While some of the lyrics can be interpreted in such a way that is contrary to what I believe, many of them are spot on. I’ve seen them twice in concert and each show was amazing. Some pictures taken from my phone below:

My In(die)-Box II

Indie

Since my originalMy In(die)-Box’ post I have found some great new music that I would like to share:

Camera Obscura – Lloyd, I’m Ready to Be Heartbroken

Camera Obscura – Tears For Affairs

Camera Obscura is my favorite new band. Their sound is both retro and fresh. I also suggest going to their myspace page to listen to other tracks. The single “Tears for Affairs” is one of my favorite tracks. Definitely an album I will buy, and I’m looking forward to listening to their older stuff.

The Essex Green – Don’t Know Why

I love my music, and I like to think that my music loves me a little too. I remember as a child finding a cassette tape and recording my favorite song off the radio (piracy started young in my family) to be played back over and over and over again… I’ve gone through a whole lotta genres, from Oldies, Country, 80s, Hard Rock, Chill Rock, New Age, Classical, Religious, bla bla bla bla bla.

Ratatat @ the Venue 3 September 2008

Music

This was an absolutely awesome show. My lady-friend Julie posted about it in her blog here. We took plenty of videos but the sound was so distorted when we played it back that I am embarassed to post it. They are AMAZING live. Well worth the 2 hour wait through crappy opening bands, though I’ll remember to arrive late at my next concert.

Here are a few photos from the concert:

I look a little fat but Julie looks like a babe. Look at her blog for some samples of Ratatat.
